The Truth Is OUT!!

Ladies when you open up your closets what words best describe what you see?

for me only one word fit....

January for me is "Junk OUT January" and so I started at the scariest place I can think of, my wardrobe! Most people who know me would assume that I have everything organized and that everything has "it's" place but the horrible truth is out after these pictures!
( But I swear (your honor and hubby) I am a changed woman!)

Ok for starters ladies can you imagine using this size closet? No this is not my coat closet this is my closet!
When this house was first built a 101 years ago it was a luxury and now it is a joke what I have to work with.
Now remember when this home was built most women had 3-5 outfits total. So the woman who had this closet  was very lucky!(don't laugh... it's true!)

This was the closet when I first opened the door. Scary no?

No wonder I have been tempted to stay in my PJ's! Who wants to tackle this mess just to get dressed for the dogs and chickens???(and the hubby and kids too I guess)

More pictures of my shame!

This is how many hangers I had crammed into that space! Unbelievable.
Honestly I am not sure how I accomplished that!

And YES! I am anal and my hangers have to match and can't be plastic.

Any time you face such a task you have to have a friend to guide you!
(I love you Stephanie)
She was my little Jiminy Cricket

All my shame was brought out and placed on my bed for inventory! What a shocker I had 69 shirts! Who on God's green earth needs 69 shirts!! Half of which I do not wear because of fit or color or some other reason..

More shirts and skirts and pants and just keeps coming!!!

Ignore the woman who hides her head in shame (still in her PJ's)  Everything from the closet and drawers came out. The inventory list shocked me (actually it still does!)

Ok so now the rules. We figured for my closet space I could have 8-10 everyday outfits and 8 church outfits. That gives me church outfits all put together for 2 months. No guessing.. No frustration.... Just grab a hanger and go. For my everyday outfits I have things I can wear with jeans or spice it up a little for going out with the hubby!

My closet with it's new make over. The jewelry is hanging with the outfits so all I now have to do is get dressed!

Look you can see the FLOOR!

MY new rules for getting dressed. When I take something out to wear it I pull another outfit from behind on the shelves and hang it up,add jewlery and I am ready for another day. I actually have 36 outfits in my closet ready to go. When I wash that outfit I put it on the shelves until I am ready to hang it up to be worn again. Rotation is the key!  Also always be able to see the back of your closet!

To accomplish this task took about 4 hours. (DON'T take this on if you don't have time to finish it) Have a trusty and true friend there to help you "LET IT GO"! (I swear I lost 10 lbs of stress just letting it go!) And donate what you don't need. I did 2 bags worth of great clothes that just DON'T work for me! Just because it is cute on a hanger doesn't mean it's cute on me... My new mantra!!! (And this one from Steph) Is it FACEBOOK worthy? (IF you don't want to post it on facebook as your profile then why BOTHER! Isn't she just amazing! She speaks my speak!

No longer does my head hang down in shame when someone shows up at my door UNEXPECTED and I smile as I try to hide that I am still in PJ's because getting dressed was just way to SCARY!!! Hope you enjoyed my journey of shame to celebration :)

WOOT! WOOT! It's Confession Time

I confess...
I get so jealous when I go to all these other sites and see how amazing you all are at your blogs! I want to be amazing too but I am still learning... Sigh

I confess...
that because of confession this has turned into my  favorite day!

I confess...
that I am a horrible mother because when my daughter got a fat lip and it swelled up to 3 times it's normal size I begged her to take a picture so I can write a post about it.. but then felt to guilty from the sad look on her face to do it... BUT I really WANTED too!!!
Good bye mother of the year award! And it's only January!!!!
(again sigh)

I confess

that if I thought I could get rid of one of my dogs ( I have 3 and they are ALL large and inside dogs) without the hubby pinning me as the prime suspect I would! He keeps destroying my home  challenging my patience but hey I have dealt with him for 8 years now what is another 2-3 right? And I worship love my hubby to much to follow through... but sometimes in my dreams.... BYE BYE ARAMIS!!!

I confess...
that I probably shouldn't have confessed to that last one because sometimes the hubby reads this and now if anything does happen I am prime suspect # 1

I confess...
that I had to pull the old "if I am paying for it" card  on my son when he missed 2 of his classes in his second week of college because he is partying hanging with friends WAYYYYY to late... But I think that we came to a my way or you pay for it. understanding... at least I hope so.. I hate being the dictator controlling mom... don't snicker.. really I do ;)

I confess...
ok maybe sometimes I don't but hey have you seen the mom VICKY  (she scares me!)on "Real Housewives" she has me beat even on my worst day! And no I don't watch that I "hear" it as my girls waste their lives on it!

I confess...
that last statement might not be completely true... sometimes I might glance that way a for just a few minutes... 15 is just a few right???

Ok my shame has been displayed for all to see... Come play along (click on the button on the side) and share your ugly dark secrets with me... Really I need to feel better about myself here!

Making Your Own Laundry Soap

Making you own laundry soap is so easy and the savings for your family budget will amaze you.  With you making your own laundry soap you also know exactly what is cleaning your families clothing. You don't have to worry about harsh chemicals. A Win/Win!

You will need 4 basic ingredients and a  2 gal bucket:

Your soap 2/3 bar Fels Naptha (this is an old fashioned type of soap and smells wonderful) or one whole bar of Ivory or (homemade soap  if you make that already). You will find this in the laundry area.
1/2 cup Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda (This is NOT baking soda!!!) This is what helps to break up your dirt. If you can not find this at your local store you can order it here..
Now it is more expensive this way so you could also ask your local store if they could bring it in a much cheaper way to go :)
1/2 cup borax powder (The brand I use is 20 Mule Team)

 1. Grate the soap (finely) and place in a sauce pan.

 2. Add 6 cups of water and heat until the soap melts.

 3. Add washing soda and borax and stir until it is dissolved. Remove from heat. Pour 4 cups hot water into bucket. Now add your soap mixture and stir. Now add 1 gallon plus 6 cups of water and stir. Let the soap sit for about 24 hours and it will gel. You use 1/2 cup per load.

4.  This is going to look a little like egg drop soup this is normal. This is a low suds soap. The suds don't do the cleaning, the suds is more chemicals in products raising to the top.

The soap has a very clean smell.. I love it but you can also add 1oz of your favorite essential oil and make it smell just the way you want it to.

This is going to cost you somewhere between one to two cents per load!!! I just saved my old laundry container from Sams and put it in there. The cap is exactly 1/2 cup. Also for my whites I do add one tsp. of baking soda to the detergent.

Shake well /Add soap before adding clothing!

Hope you love it as much as I do :)

So I have been challenged to create a Happy List so here goes:

My silly little chickens give me the best eggs ever and I feel very happy every time I cook with them.

Something about raising them myself just brings me such satisfaction. Knowing that I raised these little baby chicks to be full grown egg producing hens makes me feel successful and that makes me Happy!

This is the best mascara ever. Cover girl has really come out with some amazing new products over the years. I used to only use Department Store makeup and pay 3x's as much and I have found this is even better. They even have several varieties to find your perfect one!

Victoria Secret has the best lip glosses. The Beauty Rush lip gloss collection is another great buy. I don't wear a lot of make up anymore but if I don't have my lip gloss and mascara I just don't feel ready for the day. Check them out they are worth the money!

Baking with my food storage and learning how make bread for my family has made me very happy too. I  love learning how to make things myself instead of buying them from the store. If you would like an excellent recipe for bread that taste very close to store bought check out this site.
Food Storage Made Easy

My boy survived his first week of college and is coming home tomorrow  *smile*  for a home cooked meal of fried rice!  (and get his laundry done)  I know that I have already posted about this from last week but I am very proud of him and he makes me happy!

Well I guess when I think about it I have a million things I am happy about but those are just a few I thought I would share. Play along. Tell me what makes you happy today. And thanks for stopping by. Have a great weekend.

Hope you play along :) Click on the side button

I confess... Today is the day I look most forward to out of the week. Not because my husband has only one more day of work until he can spend time with me, or that I have 2 days to spend with my wonderful children BUT because I get to confess and read the confessions of others. I know a good laugh is coming my way and that I get to let the week go! Oh how I love confession.

I confess.. I finally get why Catholics confess each week. What a brilliant idea!

I confess.. that I have a load of laundry I have been putting off for 3 days now... What is with laundry anyway. You do it and then you turn around and there it is again! UGHHHH!

I confess... I have plenty of time to do it so I need to quit being a baby and just get it done.

I confess... that my "Junk Out January" is going great. And I am kind of proud of myself... Does that seem snobbish? Seems kind of like giving myself a *pat* for doing what I should do anyway.. Oh well still makes me smile.

I  confess... I let the girls stay home from school yesterday when I found them asleep because I didn't want to get my sorry butt out in the cold. Good thing they are excellent students because I think I might get a "C" that day for Mom! But they enjoyed it so maybe a "C+" would be more fair.

I confess... I hope I am not the only mom out there who does that!!! Sometimes my laziness even surprises me :(

I confess... that it makes me feel good when I call myself lazy and my friends point out that I am not lazy because look at my house and "all I do"... IF THEY ONLY KNEW HOW MUCH TIME I WASTE!!

I confess...I love my friends and my blog world!

A Big Day

Well it official, I am old! My son is now in College. We spent the morning getting him ready. He was supposed to meet his dorm mate at noon but he wasn't ready till a little after one.
(Guess he takes after his mother)

Well the drive takes just about an hour so we stopped for some food  (YUMMY!)
and arrived a little after 2 pm...

Once we got there and entered his dorm we heard booming rap music...

I swear Ty wanted to go back to the car and lock the doors..
He hates that type of music.
Poor kid they are right next to his dorm.
seems to be their favorite button!
Even I wanted some ear plugs by the time we left...

Despite the annoying music we started getting him settled in
and his dorm mate Drake came in and started giving him the in outs.
( He had already been there for 2 weeks.)
Drake seems a lot like Tyler so I think they will be a good match.

I forgot how small dorms can be.  We bought him a microwave and each dorm has a small fridge.
One more trip to Wal-mart for a few forgotten items, snacks and we were ready to call it good.
Ari went right to work getting him unpacked.
I  think his sisters were a little more excited then he was.
But by the end of the evening he seemed to be doing better.

Me and the girls in the finished dorm room.
I have to admit it didn't look that bad...
Once he adds his own personal touches I think he will be very happy here..
and lucky for him the brick walls help block the music!
(Don had enough of  it though and went to wait in the car so he missed out on the pictures )

 (Me, Tyler and Brad)
The cost of dorm room for 4 months $2200.00
Meal Card for 3 meals a day $900.00
Extra snacks to get him through the weekend $50.00
Tuition for first semester of college$1800.00
Books for 12 credit hours $410.00
Supplies for Dorm $250.00
Starting your son on his path to adulthood

Welcome to college son!

I've Been Tricked!

So tonight the hubby and I got away for a nice home cooked dinner with some wonderful friends
(thanks Tim and Teresa the ham was wonderfu!)

and after dinner it was suggested we play UNO.
Yeah I love card games! :)

A card is played and I don't have one to play and I start drawing from the deck,
So I am asked , "What are you doing"?
I state that I am drawing till I can play... a few confused looks and a
"well I never played that way"
and the game continues.
11 cards later and I can play.
I only have have half the deck in my hands now!
I have a trusting face so everyone assumes I know what I am doing( and of course I do) RIGHT?
So the game continues in this fashion with us all drawing until we can play
An hour later and after Tim wins and does his little song and cheer (you have to see this.. it's so cute!)  he hands me the rules and says jokingly  "Ok now show me where it says that in the rule book".  CockyConfident me starts to read  the rules so I can show him how right  correct I am.( and yes I do know what I am doing when it comes to this game) After all I have taught at least 4 of my own children to play and several of their friends... So I read. See here it is! See it says....

Dear cousin Billy you tricked me.. All this time I have been playing wrong! I have now  passed on your trickery to the next generation. I hope you are happy!  So here is how I now see it. All the hundreds of games we played as kids and you WON and I LOST!!! I NOW CALL WINNER!!

I Confess

I Confess...
I am glad today is Friday and that I joined this group because I  find confession is good for the soul.

I confess... that I don't feel old enough to have a son starting college on Tuesday! I also feel silly that I am a little jealous that it isn't me.

I confess...  lately even though my life is beyond wonderful I have felt as though the hubby and me feel more like room mates then lovers and I hate it... It's lonely :(

And I think we are in desperate need of a date night!

I confess... most of that is probably my fault because instead of going to bed with him I stay up with the stupid TV bored out of mind because I can't sleep. I have even tried sleeping pills but without luck!

I confess ... that even though I could have the whole house clean before the kids get home I still leave some chores for them to do... and I can't decide if that is right or wrong.. Thoughts???

I confess... that am so ready for Spring that if I were a witch I would cast a spell! So ready for Winter to be OVER!!

Unofficial Snow Day!!

So what do you do when you have beautiful snow and sad kids (who are excellent students) and the district  decides not to close the school...You call an " unofficial snow day" of course and become the kids hero! See now wasn't that easy!
Lizzie and Trooper starting out in the snow!

Trooper trying to catch his first snowball!
(Air bud  has nothing on him)

Moose is ready to come back in....
( he's the wimp of the family)!

Lizzie's first victim!
(Let me in... let me in momma)

The Stand OFF!!
Ok now that Lizzie got the dogs she is ready to get her sister.
Let  the fight begin!

 The Loser :(

The Winner :)

So far that is our snow day! Hope you and yours are having fun in the snow today..
We are going to make some hot coca and warm by the fire!
